️❣️❣️❣️Assadi’s trial: A victory for the people of Iran, a test for Europe️❣️❣️❣️

Assadi’s trial: A victory for the people of Iran, a test for Europe

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

Iran, November 28, 2020—The Iranian regime and its officials have much to answer for: human rights violations, torture, execution, terrorism, censorship, and arming terror groups are just some of the items that adorn the list of crimes the mullahs’ regime has committed. But while it was previously thought that these criminals would only see justice after the fall of their regime, a trial held in Antwerp, Belgium, on Friday, November 27, proved otherwise.

The court tried Assadollah Assadi, a Vienna-based Iranian diplomat, and three other individuals who tried to bomb a rally of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in 2018. The four were arrested by European authorities before they could carry out the attack and after Assadi had delivered 500 grams of explosives to his accomplices.

But the real defendant in this case is the entirety of the Iranian regime, which, for the first time after four decades of assassinations and bombings, is being tried for what it really is: A state-sponsor of terror.

"Today, this is a historical day. After 40 years of export of terrorism and involving in acts of terrorism in Europe and elsewhere, for the first time, an official of the Iranian regime - a so-called diplomat - is put on trial. So we are very happy that finally, justice is being done,” Farzin Hashemi, the Deputy Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee, said.

William Bourdon, representing the NCRI at the trial stressed that the trial of a diplomat directly involved in terrorism shows “how dangerous this regime is to the world.”

George Henri Beauthier, another lawyer of the NCRI described the trial as having “international scale” and emphasized that the regime is “challenging all of the values of Europe.”

The Iranian opposition and the lawyers of the plaintiffs in this case have produced documents and evidence that prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the foiled terror plot had been orchestrated and approved in the regime’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), which is composed of the highest authorities such as regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, regime president Hassan Rouhani, foreign minister Javad Zarif, and intelligence minister Mahmoud Alavi. This means that in this case, Assadi is a proxy for the regime’s leaders.

The true winners in this case are the people of Iran, who have for four decades been the prime victims of the regime’s crimes.

In the court’s first session, Belgian prosecutors demanded a 20-year prison sentence for Assadi; 18 years in prison for Amir Sadouni and Nassimeh Na’ami, the two agents who were to detonate the bomb at the Paris rally of the NCRI; and 15 years for Mehrdad Arefani, the fourth terrorist involved in the plot. The prosecutor also called for the Belgian citizenship of Sadouni, Na’ami, and Arefani to be revoked.

Assadi refused to appear in court, which speaks volumes about how much more there is to this case that the regime wants to hide.

This trial is the official acknowledgment of the regime’s state-sponsored terrorism and leaves no more room for appeasement with the mullahs. European states, in particular, are at an historic juncture. For many decades, concessions by Western countries have allowed the Iranian regime to become more aggressive in its terrorism. Today, the Iranian regime’s agents are threatening the security of European countries. This trial is a chance for European countries to close the door for the regime’s belligerent behavior once and for all.

How can this happen?

“The European Union and member states whose territories have become the roaming grounds for terrorism by the religious fascism ruling Iran are being judged by the court of public opinion to end the policy of silence vis-à-vis the regime’s terrorism and adopt a decisive policy towards Iran’s medieval regime,” Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the NCRI, said in remarks on the Antwerp tribunal.

Madam Rajavi, was the prime target of the foiled bombing plot, called for the terrorist designation of the entirety of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), and the expulsion of all agents of the Iranian regime from European soil, including those who, like Assadi, are operating under diplomatic cover.

“Granting political refugee status and nationality to these operatives by the European countries must be considered a red line as it would pave the path for further terrorism. European countries must shut down the clerical regime’s embassies and the so-called cultural and religious centers, which are in reality centers to coordinate terrorism and espionage,” Rajavi said.

“Back in March I said that we will concede a goal at the 90th minute [referring to a 90-minute football/soccer match]. This is a complicated virus and it has mutated in a unique manner. Its characteristics have changed and become very contagious,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Sunday, according to state TV.

“Only three percent of the population has contracted the virus and 97 percent are healthy and clean,” said Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on Monday. “We are completely focused to provide care for that three percent so that the remaining 97 percent can live their lives normally. Due to that three percent we have restricted commuting, closed stores and imposed other restrictions,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

The spokesperson of the Isfahan Medical Sciences University reported 37 people have died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. “The total number of people hospitalized stands at 1659, of whom 373 are in ICUs. These stats indicate the critical situation in our province,” the official added on Monday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The number of people hospitalized for coronavirus in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed province stands currently at 36.6 per 100,000 persons. This is significantly higher than the country’s average. 327 people are currently hospitalized for Covid-19, of whom 34 in ICUs,” said the Health Ministry spokesperson on Monday, according to IRNA.

“In the past 24 hours, 23 people have died of Covid-19 pushing the total 2865,” said the dean of West Azarbaijan Medical Sciences University on Sunday. “A total of 1202 patients are hospitalized for Covid-19, of which 187 are in ICUs and 73 are under ventilators,” the official added, according to the IMNA news agency.

“The virus continues to spread massively, and 15 people have died in the past 24 hours. The total number of people who have died of coronavirus are in four digits,” said the dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Monday. “The number of people hospitalized and in ICUs are increasing daily. Currently there are 470 patients hospitalized, of which 77 are in ICUs,” the official added, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The increasing trend of Covid-19 among our population continues and 569 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized in our medical centers,” said the dean of Golestan Medical Sciences University on Monday. “114 patients are in ICUs and 57 are under ventilators. Furthermore, during the past 24 hours 13 patients have died of Covid-19,” the official added, according to the Mehr news agency.

“With an increase in people seeking medical treatment and being hospitalized, and our medical infrastructure not being ready, some of our hospitals lack oxygen devices,” said dean of Markazi Medical Sciences University on Sunday.

“65 percent of the beds allocated to coronavirus beds are occupied. In the past seven to ten days we have been witnessing a severe increase in the number of new cases and people hospitalized, and as a result dire patients in ICUs,” said the dean of Zahedan Medical Sciences University in Sistan & Baluchistan province on Sunday. “For this reason currently there is a continuous number of people dying and these numbers will increase in the coming seven or ten days,” the official added on Sunday, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Some of the payments and benefits that should have been provided to our nurses years ago have still not been realized,” said a senior medical official in Razavi Khorasan province on Monday. “Currently some of this has been provided to nurses in our province. However, these payments are not at all up to date and despite the fact that nine months have passed in the [Iranian calendar] year, still last year’s benefits have not been delivered. Around the world there are 4.5 nurses for each bed. This standard in Iran falls to 2.5 nurses and around 1.1 nurses in the city of Mashhad,” the official added, according to the Shahr-e Ar News website.
