Iran: Family's Concerns Regarding Disappearance of Political Prisoner Ali Moezzi

NCRI - Al Arabiya television reported on Monday, January 9: “The Iranian regime’s security forces have transferred political prisoner Ali Moezzi, a supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK), from Gohardasht Prison to an unknown location and there is no news about his condition and whereabouts. According to international human rights organizations and the families of this political prisoner, it is feared that Mr. Moezzi is being tortured and even killed.”
Hejrat Moezzi, daughter of this political prisoner, told Al Arabiya that her family is extremely worried about the fate of her father who disappeared last Wednesday, January 4. According to Ms. Moezzi, neither the security nor judicial authorities provided any information about the reason for the transfer of Mr. Moezzi and his whereabouts.

“My father was first arrested in 2008 after I and my sister joined the PMOI. He was detained for three years in prison. In June 2011, he was arrested once again despite being released a few months earlier and sentenced to four years imprisonment. He was supposed to be released after his prison term ended in December 2015, but the prison officials held him in prison one more year by making a new case against him,” Ms. Moezzi added.
Hejrat Moezzi believes that her father has been taken for interrogation because of the positions he had taken inside the prison particularly the letters he had written condemning the Iranian regime’s crimes in Aleppo against Syrian people and also letters condemning mass execution of political prisoners in the 1980s.
“I urge all human rights organizations and activists to be the voice of the oppressed political prisoners and put pressure on the mullahs’ regime ruling Iran to stop executions and violation of freedom of expression,” she said.
Futhermore, a number of parliamentary officials in Europe including the “Friends of a Free Iran” inter-group in the European Parliament and several Parliamentary Committees from various countries have demanded clarification of the fate of Ali Moezzi and his immediate release.
