Ghalibaf: 10% of Iranians Living in Utter Poverty, Sleeping Hungry

NCRI - Tehran mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a candidate in Iran’s 12th presidential election farce, recently targeted the policies of President Hassan Rouhani, saying continuing the status quo will lead to social damage and a recession.
“Today, I want to tell you about the truth about 10% of our population being poor. Completely in poverty. They are facing challenges just providing for their everyday needs. I am not exaggerating if I say they go to sleep hungry,” he said in a recorded TV interview.
“This is why 4% of our society is preventing the other 96% from any activities,” he said.
“The president said our economic problems will not be resolved for another 40 to 100 years. Mr. Rouhani, our people don’t have any more patience,” Ghalibaf continued.
“Rouhani’s faction is causing economic weaknesses and inflicting social damage, and this will be irrecoverable. Some families are on the verge of crumbling apart. Our government officials should know that your government will become weakened and will end. The country and society will be weakened and your religion and faith will be damaged,” he added.
Ghalibaf also claimed he could create 5 million jobs and pay 250,000 tomans in subsidies (around $70) to all those seeking jobs.
Iranian Labor Minister Ali Rabie said those who talk about raising subsidies to such figures don’t understand what they are talking about.
Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, another candidate, said the target of such deception are the people, adding the individual who has raised such a claim has to this day failed to create a single job.
“[Ebrahim] Raisi promises to double or triple subsidies for the poor, and build cheap homes. However, he doesn’t say under which legal order will he pursue such goals and where will he provide the necessary resources,” said former MP Ahmad Tavakoli.
Iran’s presidential election farce is scheduled for May 19th.
