Inhumane treatment and punishments continue in Iranian judicial system
In the Iranian prisons, the treatment of the prisoners often includes deplorable treatment, including torture and physical abuse. These cruel punishments including flogging, amputation, and other forms of humiliation. Minorities and those groups being targeted by the Iranian regime are often at great risk of being mistreated once they are arrested.
They often suffer from torture and other forms of abuse, as well as denial of even the most basic necessities, including food, water, and medical attention. Protests of the conditions often mean being transferred to isolation and solitary confinement for those who try to bring attention to the injustice throughout the system.
Dervish community targeted by prison authorities
For instance, on Wednesday morning, members of the Tehran Penitentiary Complex security unitsreportedly attacked the Dervish inmates being held in that prison. Authorities welded a door leading to the guard officers’ area. It was an act meant to pressure the inmates into ending a protest against the conditions inside the prison. The attacks followed inspections conducted by Mohebi, who is the head of the Prisons Organization.
The Dervish have been continually targeted by the regime and many have been arrested or received unnecessary punishments from the Iranian judiciary.

Sufi inmates also left limbo
There are also reports being released about the Sufi inmates, particularly the women, are being held in horrible conditions and were attacked before being arrested. The women are being held without a lawyer and in very inhumane conditions without medical treatment for wounds that were received during their arrest.
Interrogations after their arrests were also harsh, and they often included torture and aggressive body cavity searches by female agents from the IRGC.
Amnesty International issued a statement in March that reported these inhumane conditions and describing the internment of the women as without merit, arbitrary, and that their prison terms including harassment and mistreatment.
Activists use hunger strikes to draw attention to Regime’s actions
For many of the activists that have been arrested, hunger strikes are used to draw attention to not only their plight, but the actions perpetrated against others. They also write letters of support for protesters, as well as pointing out how the regime harasses their families who live in Iran and abroad.
Charges are often made up and new ones continue to be added, making it difficult for those arrested to ever get out of prison. Clearly, the international community needs to take note of these actions and work to hold the Iranian regime to account.
