Iran coronavirus update: Over 205,000 deaths, warnings of massive fourth wave escalating

Iran, January 22, 2021—Over 205,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 478 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, January 22. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 57,225 around a third of the actual figure.The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 49,831 in Tehran, 13,870 in Razavi Khorasan, 12,945 in Isfahan, 10,235 in Khuzestan, 8197 in Mazandaran, 7833 in East Azerbaijan, 7276 in Gilan, 6212 in Fars, 5283 in Alborz, 3757 in Yazd, 3516 in Kurdistan, 2542 in Ardabil, 2145 in Hormozgan, 1635 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and 1514 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed.

Suddenly in just two weeks they announce it as good news that Iran is producing in cooperation with another country, and we won’t mention its name! And they say have conducted phases one and two of its testing in that country, and the clinical trials of phase 3 will be conducted inside Iran,” said a senior official of the regime’s Passive Defense Corps on Wednesday. “Then the Food and Drug Organization spokesperson said that country is Cuba, the Pasteur Institute is the entity engaged, and the clinical trial phase will involve 50,000 people. What happened to the results of phases one and two? How many people do we test in the clinical trial phases one and two? Will this vaccine test in another country mean they will do the same testing in our country? And there will be no published information? Why all the secrecy?” he asked, according to the regime’s state TV.

 

 

 

“The next Covid-19 waves are beginning to shape, and, in other words, we are still engaged with this illness. There is a high probability that the Iranian vaccine will be made available to the people by June,” said Minoo Mohraz, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.“The virus remains active and it will flood us with the slightest of negligence. We expect the fourth wave to be far worse,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Friday. “The reopening of schools, as we experienced in the past, led to an increase in the number of children contracting this virus. Although the death rate among children is lesser, they can be a substantial source in transmitting the virus to others. Therefore, considering the tireless work of our medical professionals and the unstable conditions of the vaccine, we still need people to abide by health protocols and restrictions. This is the only solution to defeat this epidemic,” the official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“After eight weeks once again the country’s Covid-19 death rate has begun to increase. These can be serious warnings of a fourth wave. If this trend continues in the coming weeks it can lead to a fourth Covid-19 wave,” according to a Friday piece published in the state controlled Khabar Online website.“During the past 24 hours 21 coronavirus patients have lost their lives and 251 new Covid-19 patients have been registered,” according to a Thursday report wired by the Mehr news agency citing the Mazandaran and Babol Medical Sciences universities.“During the past few days, our patients have been rescinding into worse conditions. The possibility of a massive wave in February and March is very real,” said the dean of Khuzestan Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Javan daily, an outlet affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).“The number of new Covid-19 cases are increasing. We have 556 people hospitalized, of which 103 are in ICUs. The number of people who have died of coronavirus in Fars province stands at 3099,” said the director of public relations in the Fars Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
