Iran: Presidential Candidates and Hollow Promise of a Better Economy

NCRI - Ebrahim Raisi, a candidate in Iran’s sham presidential election, on Tuesday claimed to create six million jobs and triple subsidiaries to low income individuals.
Iranian Labor Minister Ali Rabi’e responded to Raisi’s remarks saying those who promise to raise subsidiaries “don’t understand the meaning of these numbers.”
In the meantime, chair of the parliament’s Research Center described such a promise to increase subsidiaries as “placing the elections on auction.” This body also added subsidies had failed to improve the situation in Iran and has the potential of making matters worse.
Rouhani and other presidential candidates said in response to such promises it is crystal clear where the government receives this money and this is not merely an “auction to simply raise the figures.”
Six million new jobs!
Raisi also promised to create six million jobs in the next four years and decrease unemployment to 8 percent.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, another presidential candidate, promised to create five million jobs and provide 250,000 tomans (around $70) each month for those striving to find a job.
Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri, another candidate, said these promises are aimed at “deceiving” the people, adding those who make such promises have “failed to create any jobs and don’t understand these numbers.”
Without specifically mentioning Ghalibaf’s name, Parliament speaker Ali Larijani said: distributing money amongst the people is the policy of dishonest politician.
