Viyan Dakheel, the Iraqi Yazidi community representative in the Parliament, described the Iran-backed Hashad al-Shabi militias as the main threat for the northern province and city of Mosul. These remarks were made in an interview with the Turkish Anatoly news agency.
“The Sunni Arabs and Kurds will not tolerate Hashad al-Shabi ’s insistence on remaining in Mosul,” he said.
The international coalition’s operations have yet to finish in western Mosul and Hashad al-Shabi militias have already headed off to the Iraq-Syria border.
“These events are taking place with the US-led international coalition forces being completely informed. The central government of Iraq cannot make any decisions about Hashad al-Shabi ’s measures without the authority of the coalition forces,” he added.
There is a dire need for a strong local and popular parliament to resolve Mosul’s future issues after cleansing the entire province of ISIS. For such an initiative the central and Iraqi Kurdistan governments in the north, supported by the coalition forces, must work together in solidarity, Dakheel explained.
“The current Mosul parliament has failed to provide a solution during the past three years, during which the innocent people of this region were under the rule of terrorist groups. The international community, and especially the United States, must provide their support to reach a lasting peace in Mosul,” he continued.
