Iran: Gender Segregation in Tehran, This Time by Separating Recreation Centers

NCRI - In continuation of its gender separation plans Tehran municipality intends to build two recreation centers named “Shardokht” which is only for use of girl students.
According to a report by ISNA news agency, on Wednesday January 18, director general of women’s affairs in Tehran municipality said two recreation centers in area 1 and 3 in Tehran will be launched and “these places can be used as a healthy niche for girls.”
Elahe Ataei claimed, the aim of launching these recreational centers, is to prepare desirable condition for girls particularly girl students’ dormitory to spend their leisure time.
Prior to this, the municipality of Tehran has implemented gender separation in Iran’s capital by creating separate parks for women.
UNESCO says in using city amenities and steady development, “Gender equality” must be held and Women’s share in the city must be increased by removing obstacles like lack of security.
Creating feminine spaces in social network also has been criticized by people.
