Following the 55-day hunger strike by Ms. Atena Daemi protesting the imprisonment of her sisters, the Iranian regime has been forced to release them, bringing an end to this hunger strike.
Daemi, 29, is a children’s rights activist in Iran. She was arrested in 2014 and sentenced to seven years behind bars for propaganda against the state, assembly and collusion against national security, and insulting Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and regime founder Ruhoallah Khomeini.
On the day of her arrest, she and her two sisters were injured and insulted. They filed a complaint over how they were treated, yet told their complaint was lost in court. In the end, the Iranian “judiciary” sentenced all three sisters to three months behind bars.
While already in prison, during her hunger strike Daemi suffered severe physical illnesses s and Amnesty International issued a statement in this regard.
Daemi’s message
“I wanted to be the voice of all those people whose entire families were the target of cruelty in all these years. My sisters were an excuse to be the voice of Maryam and Reza Akbari Monfared, whose four brothers and sisters were executed 39 years ago and today they are in prison because of them… I wanted to be the voice of Fateme Mothana who was 13 when jailed, and her three brothers were executed... and now, she and her husband, Hassan Sadeghi, are both behind bars with 15 year rulings…”
The Iranian regime in the early 1980s, and in 1988, executed more than 120,000 people in Iran. Many of them have been buried in unknown places. The families of these victims are seeking justice for their loved ones. However, the Iranian regime arrests and imprisons them in response, including members of the Akbari Monfared and Mothana families.
