Can the Iran nuclear deal be saved with the Europeans?
May 10, 2018-- Various outlets and voices in Iran are reacting to the United States’ recent decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took to the podium after U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement to say Iran will abide by the JCPOA framework and continue cooperating with Europe.
“The U.S. will not be imposing cash fines for non-compliance to sanctions, but to cut off access to the dollar cycle and judiciary measures in the United States. In Europe, banks will not be able to continue their very existence without access to the dollar cycle,” writes the semi-official Mehr news agency, affiliated to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence.
“Fines are usually in such a skyrocketing values that it literally devours any profits that may be gained through trade with Iran… It appears Europe is selling something to us it actually doesn’t posses… The prospect of continuing to cooperate under the JCPOA framework with Europe is a distant, nonexecutable and far from the truth… we warn that the JCPOA with Europe is technically ‘nonexecutable.’ Technical realities cannot be viewed through political perspectives…”
Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, having the last word on all national security and foreign relations affairs in Iran, has specifically said he doesn’t trust the European Troika.
