G7 condemns Iran’s ballistic missile program, support for terrorist groups
Iran, June 10, 2018 - Leaders in this year’s G7 Summit, hosted by Canada, issued their final communique emphasizing the Iranian regime must not obtain nuclear weapons and condemning Tehran’s financial support for terrorism.
Considering the Iranian regime’s ballistic missile threat to international peace and security, these leaders are calling on this regime to halt its ballistic missile launches and other activities in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 – and all its amendments, the statement explains.
Tehran must refrain from actions destabilizing the Middle East and end its missile technology proliferation.
G7 member states have pledged permanent guarantees to maintain Iran’s nuclear program as peaceful and based on its international obligations. The Iranian regime must be prevented from obtaining, developing or producing nuclear weapons, the statement reads.
The G7 leaders also condemned Tehran’s financial support for terrorism, including Iran-backed terrorist groups.
In his final press conference U.S. President Donald Trump specifically said G7 members have pledged to prevent Iran’s nuclear ambitions. With or without the G7, the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions will be controlled, alongside international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, and individuals who spread this deadly ideology, he added.
On Friday, Trump had emphasized how the Iranian regime has changed its behavior after the U.S. exited the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Trump emphasized he will only strike a deal with Iran that is first discussed with the U.S. Congress, adding he will not carry out his measures similar to former U.S. president Barack Obama.
The sanctions the U.S. will be imposing against Iran’s regime have never been seen before, Trump underscored during his Thursday press conference after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe. Trump added he hopes Iranian regime leaders succumb to America’s demands and surrender, similar to North Korea.
In response, Iranian regime parliament speaker Ali Larijani resorted to threatening insecurity across the Middle East.
“… the U.S. President said Iran’s behavior has changed after our sanctions… The Saudis are saying we will compensate the shortage of Iran’s oil production. All these efforts are aimed at cornering Iran. However, if the devious U.S.-Israel-Saudi triangle corners Iran,… it will lead to their own insecurity.”
