Parisa Rafii, female student and activist, was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. The news was announced by Saeed Khalili, the lawyer of Parisa Rafiee, female student and activist.
Parisa Rafii, a 21-year-old arts major at Tehran University, was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran to 7 years in prison for “collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security”, “propaganda against the system” and “disrupting public order.”
Regarding his client’s charges, Parisa Rafii’s lawyer said, “In my opinion, there is no logical reason which would definitely indicate that (my client) has committed a crime. Her file does not contain any documents to this effect. All of the charges she has been informed of, are ordinary behavior and actions in the context of law and the rights stipulated in the Constitution and the (Convention of) Citizens' Rights, for all citizens particularly a student activist. Unfortunately, this verdict violates fairness, justice, as well as legal and religious principles, and I will appeal for revision.”
Parisa Rafii, female student and activist at Tehran University was arrested on February 25, 2018, by security forces and was detained for 23 days for participating in the December/January uprisings in Iran. Eventually, with her family’s constant follow-ups, she was released on bail on March 20, 2018.
Saeed Khalili, defense lawyer of Parisa Rafii, reported that his client's case was examined on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Ahmadzadeh.
In another development, three weeks after the arrest of female civil rights and environmental activist Negisa Shahbazi, she was transferred from the Detention Center of the Intelligence Department to the Central Prison of Ilam, in western Iran. After this transfer, her family was able to visit her at the Central Prison.
Negisa Shahbazi is also an active member of the “Cower” mountain climbing team in Ilam, who played a major role in extinguishing the recent fire of Kabir Kuh and criticized the Iranian government institutions for their inaction.
