Iran, September 7, 2020—Rural Telecommunications Company employees from different provinces gathered in front of the mullahs’ Majlis (parliament) on Monday, September 7, protesting officials’ refusal to address their problems, including wage increases, job bonuses and bringing an end to discrimination in the company.
The most important issue raised by the workers is an end to salary discrimination at the Rural Telecommunication Company. These employees also have the following demands:
-Commitment to the agreement reached between the workers and Rural Telecommunication Company officials in the presence of Majlis members.
-Ending discrimination in the payment of wages, benefits and job welfare between rural workers and urban employees
-Permanent contracts for those employees who have temporary contracts
-Payment of delayed paychecks and insurance premiums for some workers, going all the way back to before and after the year 2009
It is worth noting that most of these employees have 25 years of experience working for this company and are still receiving minimum wages set for their occupation.

Mine incident in Hojedk of Kerman province, south-central Iran—September 6, 2020
On Sunday, four miners lost their lives unfortunately following a serious mining incident in Hojedk of Ravar, a city in Kerman province, south-central Iran. Lack of adequate safety measures and equipment, along with incompetent officials in charge to provide minimum safety precautions for the miners led to this mine collapse and other similar incidents.
85 days protests by workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company in Shush, southwest Iran—September 7, 2020
On Monday, September 7, various workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company continued their protest rally in front of the governorate in the city of Shush in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran. Haft Tappeh’s fired workers are demand changes to their temporary contract and returning to work.
The most important issues raised by the workers during this strike are as follows:
- Immediate payment of delayed paychecks and renewal of their insurance booklets
- Immediate return to work for fired colleagues
- Immediate arrest of Omid Assadbeigi (CEO of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Complex) and life imprisonment for this corrupt individual
- Immediate dismissal of corrupt employers from Haft Tappeh
- Immediate return of embezzled wealth to the workers
- Ending the careers of already retired managers
