Why the Assad Regime Insists on the Bombardment of Wadi Barada

NCRI - Syrian writer and journalist, Mohammed Abdullah said to Al-Jazeera TV that the Assad regime and its allies attacked Wadi Barada located in suburbs of Damascus because this region has strategic importance and it is close to the borders of Lebanon.
Al-Jazeera TV, January 11th 2017:
"The ceasefire got violated right after it was declared. The Assad regime and its allies (the Iranian regime and Hezbollah) violated the ceasefire especially in Wadi Barada, the eastern Ghouta and the suburbs of Hama and Daraa provinces.
Russia is the country that observes the ceasefire so that it will not be violated. However, Russia has conflicts with Iran on interests and strategies. Will Iran and Russia confront each other or can they settle the conflict by apportioning duties in Syria?"
The Syrian writer and journalist, Mohammed Abdullah said:"the violation of ceasefire is the only threat to the negotiations that were held in Astana, Kazakhstan. I must say this is the last opportunity for Moscow.
Any political solution for Syria is a disadvantage for the Assad regime and its backed-up militants. Here I want to point out a very significant issue. Wadi Barada in which the ceasefire is being violated is a strategic region. The training camps of IRGC and Hezbollah are set up in this region to train Houthis that came from Yemen. Hezbollah had a large weapons caches there. I think the Assad regime and Hezbollah are holding a competition to gain the control of that region because this area is close to the borders of Lebanon."
