Reported by PMOI/MEK
Iran, Dec. 26, 2018 - On Tuesday, the farmers of Varzaneh, Isfahan, gathered in Darvazeh Abbas square for a demonstration and marched in the streets of the city. Women, students and the children of the farmers also participated in the demonstrations.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, hailed the farmers and the youth who have not given in to the threats of the Iranian regime and continue to protest for their rights.
Hail to #Iran’s striking truckers and to the farmers and brave youths of #Varzaneh who have been defying the IRGC’s show of force for the 4th straight day, saying “honorable death is better than life under oppression” & fighting on to get their share of water— Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) December 26, 2018
The farmers of Isfahan have been protesting for being deprived of their traditional water resources. The destructive policies of the Iranian regime, which includes diverting water from Isfahan’s Zayandeh Rud river to other places to serve the purposes of IRGC projects and government institutions, has has an immensely negative effect on farming activities in the province. Agriculture is the main occupation of the inhabitants of Isfahan, and without access to vital water, their livelihoods is in grave danger. Iranian officials have often made promises to restore the province’s water resources but have reneged on their promises.
On Tuesday, the farmers were chanting, “Shame on incompetent officials,” “Oppressed people, unite!” “Hardworking people, unite!” “We will shame the enemies of Zayandeh Rud,” “Death to incompetent authorities,” “Rouhani you liar, what happened to our Zayandeh Rud.”
