During the past few days various websites opposing the regime in Iran reported 32 political prisoners in Tehran’s Evin Prison have written a letter to Asma Jahangir, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, and the President of the UN Human Rights Council, protesting human rights violations by Iranian judiciary officials in prisons across the country.
This letter, written on March 31st and containing the names of these 32 political prisoners, refers to the dire situation of ill prisoners, issuing death sentences and heavy jail terms by the Ministry of Intelligence and Revolutionary Guards.

This letter is the voice of freedom lovers in Iran, the voice of those who shout in their inner souls as their nation is condemned to a comprehensive crackdown and silence.
Political and economic inequality, extortions and economic corruption by the government and those along their side, heavy political/security clampdown against any beliefs across the country, lack of respect for people’s privacy and civil rights, poverty and injustice, law violations, lack of freedom of speech and thought, repeated arrests targeting the youth, college students, teachers, professors and experts, issuing death sentences and heavy jail terms by kangaroo courts controlled by the Ministry of Intelligence and Revolutionary Guards, judges like Salavati and Moqise, puppets who act as typewriters and signatories of their rulings.
The dire conditions of child workers and lack of freedom for women, poor conditions in detention centers managed by the Ministry of Intelligence and Revolutionary Guards, threats of numerous tortures in order to obtain confessions, poor conditions in Karaj’s Gohardasht Prison, and the political wards of 12, 350 and 8 in Tehran’s Evin Prison. The authorities refuse to separate prisoners based on their crimes, lack of medical care for political prisoners such as Misters Abdulfattah Sultani, Arash Sadeghi, Alireza Golipour, Soheil Arabi, Omid Shahmoradi, Mehdi Rajabian, Reza Ahmadi, Mohsen and Ahmad Daneshpour, and Yousef Emadi who are in dire physical conditions. The indifference shown by prison officials continues to this day.
Lack of follow-up on judiciary cases and protests, threatening political, civil and human rights advocates, and experts and their families are all flagrant examples of human rights violations and the deteriorating conditions of political prisoners in Iran. This demands serious and firm action, whereas Iran claims to export “revolution” and “Islamic human rights” to the world.
