Iran: Reports of new protests in various cities
Iran: Reports of new protests in various cities
by PMOI/MEK
Iran, Oct. 31, 2018 - As reports of continuing protests and strikes arrive from across Iran, clients of the Caspian credit firm, associated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), rallied outside this institution’s main office building in Tehran and held a protest gathering on Monday morning.
“Caspian has stolen from us, the government is supporting its measures,” the protesters were chanting.
Alborz Nahal Neshan credit company clients demanding their stolen savings returned
Also on Monday, clients of the Alborz Nahal Neshan credit company protested outside the Bank Keshavarzi in Tehran, demanding their plundered life savings returned.
In Javanrud, western Iran mobile street vendors selling fruits rallied outside the mayor’s office in this city on Monday, protesting the rising price of fruits.
Protest in Javanroud
Farmers in Najaf Abad, Qahderijan and Fouladshahr of Isfahan Province, central Iran, began rallying again on Monday, protesting and going on strike for not receiving their share of river waters. A large banner seen at their protest site read, “What happened to our Zayanderud (a local river)?”
Farmers in the city of Shushtar, southwest Iran, also rallied on Monday, protesting not receiving answers to their rightful demands. They parked their tractors in one area in a sign of their ongoing protests.
In Abadan, southwest Iran, a group of contract employees in the Abadan oil refinery’s transportation sector held a rally demanding their delayed paychecks and pensions.

On Saturday, various posts on official outlets and social media networks indicated numerous groups of rail workers going on strike, continuing to this day. The state-run ILNA news agency, along with other outlets, were also posting reports in this regard.
As this strike successfully began, Iran’s society is now witnessing yet another group of workers launching a strike. These rail workers are responsible for keeping the country’s rail network up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This latest series of strikes in the third round of protests launched by Iran’s rail workers in the past six months. It is worth noting that the rail workers also launched a number of more local strikes in between the periods when the entire country was experiencing strikes.
The protesting rail workers are demanding delayed paychecks, in some cases postponed for three to four months. Cities across numerous provinces, including Khorasan, Azerbaijan, Lorestan, Isfahan, Zanjan, Eslamshahr, Karaj, Shahroud, Semnan, Damghan, Gorgan, Varamin, Arak, Urmia (Orumiyeh), Andimeshk, Zahedan and the town of Diezel near Tehran were home to such protests.
On September 29, rail workers in Shahroud began demanding their delayed paychecks. Once again, on October 6, rail workers in Khorasan Province went on strike, marching towards the mayor’s and governor’s office while protesting their delayed paychecks.
Officials have repeatedly provided hollow promises saying the workers’ demands will be provided for. This has become nothing but hollow promises. These workers have also not received their wages for the past few months or any pensions during the past six years. Only 22 rail workers in Tabriz have been able to receive their pensions.
All the while, inflation is skyrocketing, necessities are becoming more expensive with each passing day, and the workers are being deprived of even their very low incomes.
Protesting rail workers on strike in Iran
Railway workers in various parts of Iran, including Hormozgan, Shahroud, Damghan, Semnan, Zagros, and Lorestan launched their third round of protests on Saturday morning, demanding their paychecks that have been delayed for the past three months.
This is yet another example of people from all walks of life protesting in cities across Iran.
These workers, numbering at around 6,500, are saying they are very steadfast and serious on this new round of protests.
Their first rally dates back to July 20th to August 8th. The second round was launched on August 25th, continuing for three days.
These protest gatherings were held in various rail networks throughout the country, including the provinces of Khorasan, Azerbaijan, Lorestan, Isfahan and Zanjan, and the cities of Eslamshahr, Karaj, Shahroud, Semnan, Damghan, Gorgan, Varamin, Arak, Urmia (Orumiyeh), Andimeshk, Zahedan and Diezel near Tehran.
On September 29th, rail workers in Sharoud went on strike and launched a protest rally after not receiving answers to their demands.
Workers of the Abnie Company are seeking permanent contracts, an independent worker union, job security and measures preventing officials from launching unbridled layoffs, being permitted to voice their protests and discuss their demands, monthly paychecks provided at specific timings and the workers’ insurance problems seen to for their ultimate resolving.
Negligence to the workers’ demands have resulted in their problems remaining unresolved over the years, and the workers continue to seek their fundamental demands.
Repair employees of Tehran’s railway have joined the general rail workers’ strike, saying they are demanding a raise according to legal regulations.
The protesting workers issued a statement saying:
“We have not received our demands and pensions at a time when we are facing an increase in prices of ordinary goods on a daily basis and we literally lack the ability to provide for our basic needs.”
The workers are demanding their paychecks being provided on time through a regular trend.
“We railway workers are among the most deprived branch of society and the wages we are from contracting companies are provided at a very minimum. In the best of circumstances, a railway worker is receiving 15 million to 17 million rials a month ($107 to $121). Most of this goes to provide for the mortgage, water, electricity, and gas. Even if we are able to pay for these expenses, it will be through extreme difficulties and even further dilemmas will come our way.”

Iran: Regime Collapse Will Lead the Way to Freedom for the People
Iran: Regime Collapse Will Lead the Way to Freedom for the People
on .
By Shahriar Kia
Former MEP Struan Stevenson has disputed claims that the collapse of the Iranian regime will cause more problems that what it would solve.
For almost forty years, the Iranian regime has been suppressing, oppressing and depriving the people of Iran of their human rights, freedom and democracy. The regime is based on these practices and nothing will change that.
Some believe that the Iranian regime needs to be nudged in the right direction in order for change to come to Iran. However, this is completely false. After all, former President Barack Obama gave Iran so many concessions in the belief that it would become more moderate. This never happened. In fact, Obama’s appeasement had the opposite effect – it became emboldened and continued with its anti-America rhetoric.
Some have also said that President Hassan Rouhani is more moderate than the other members of the Iranian regime but moderation does not exist. Not one official can be described as truly moderate and this is quite simply because moderation is not compatible with the regime’s core values and aims.
Referring to claims that the Iranian President is moderate, Stevenson said: “Nothing could be further from the truth. Since Rouhani came to power in August 2013, more than 3,500 people have been executed in Iran, which now holds the record as the world’s leading executioner per capita.” He also pointed out that the people are not calling for the hard-liners to be replaced with moderates – they are calling for regime change.
Thousands upon thousands of protesters have been arrested, many have been tortured, some were gunned down in the streets. All under the so-called “moderate” Rouhani’s government. Women are still not treated as equals and mass executions are carried out on a regular basis. Prisoners are tortures, forced to confess to crimes under duress and are left to languish in miserable conditions.
Human rights organisations have expressed their concern about the state of affairs in Iran. They have called for immediate halts to executions and have called on Iran to adhere to international norms regarding the human rights situation. Amnesty International has brought up numerous issues in its reports over the years, but nothing ever changes for the better.
Stevenson said: “Combined with the mullahs’ own predilection for corruptly lining their own pockets, it is little surprise that the country with the world’s second largest gas reserves and fourth largest crude oil reserves is now facing economic meltdown. Iran, despite its rich, civilised and open culture, has now become an international pariah, its religious fascist regime condemned for human rights abuse and the export of terror, while its 80 million beleaguered citizens, over half of whom are under 30, struggle to feed their families against a background of record temperatures, power outages, water shortages and food prices that have risen by more than 50%.”
Change will only happen when the clerical regime’s rule ends. No amount of appeasement will ever make a difference. A strong policy that is clear and firm is what is needed – not just for the people of Iran but for the other victims of the regime across the region.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo congratulated Denmark in a tweet for uncovering the plot and said that for 40 years Iran has made Europe a target of terror attacks.
Politiets Efterretningstjeneste (PET) is the national security and intelligence agency of Denmark. Agency executive Finn Borch Andersen made an announcement at a press conference to explain the agency’s actions on September 28th, when a number of roads, bridges, and ferry routes were closed during a massive manhunt.
According to Andersen, an assassination plot against a Denmark resident was behind the large-scale police action. He said, “This is a case that entails an Iranian intelligence operation in Denmark. In our view, it was an Iranian intelligence agency’s plan to assassinate a person who lives in Denmark.”
PET collaborated with the Norwegian and Swedish intelligence services in an investigation into the assassination attempt, which led to the arrest of a Norwegian man believed to be involved. The arrest occurred in Gothenburg, Sweden, according to the Swedish intelligence service Säpo.
Anderson explained, “A Norwegian citizen of Iranian origin was arrested on October 21st. The person in question is now in custody. He is charged with establishing an Iranian intelligence operation in Denmark as well as having taken part in the assassination attempt.” The suspect continues to maintain his innocence. He will be held in isolation until November 8th.
Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen summoned Iran’s ambassador, Morteza Moradian, to a meeting, after which he said in a ministry statement, “As stated by the head of the Danish Security and Service earlier today, the assessment is that an Iranian intelligence agency has planned an assassination on Danish soil. This is completely unacceptable. In fact, the gravity of the matter is difficult to describe. That has been made crystal clear to the Iranian ambassador in Copenhagen today.”
He said further that Denmark will be in close contact with several like-minded countries regarding the issue of an Iranian intelligence agency’s “illegal activities in Europe”.
It is totally unacceptable that Iran or any other foreign state plans assassinations on Danish soil. Further actions against Iran will be discussed in the EU. #dkpol

An Unprecedented Rise in the Number of Child Labour in Iran
An Unprecedented Rise in the Number of Child Labour in Iran
on .
By Amir Taghati
According to a state expert, close to a quarter of Iran’s population are rural residents, and consequently, there is an increasing rate of child labour witnessed as Kolbars (humans used as carriers) and vendors (selling items in the street).
According to official government reports, there are nearly 2 million child workers in Iran now, and according to “unofficial reports, 7 million”.
According to a report released by the state-run news ILNA (October 13th, 2018), Hadi Shariati labels child work a “very significant issue” and describes that the age gaps observed across child labour is continuing to increase just as fast.
Shariati explains: “the crisis witnessed across our country’s economy and education has greatly impacted the livelihood of many families, and consequently, has resulted in many children, even under the school age, resorting to things like garbage collecting, panhandling, and vending”.
Economic Violence
While warning of the “harsh circumstances” revolving Iranian children and the “painful extent” to which “many people are being sacrificed”, Shariati states: “the systematic top-down economic violence in our country, is significantly impacting the lives of more vulnerable families, most of whom are rural residents; this leaves children being the actual victims of economic violence, who are forced to leave education for work, to meet basic needs”.
According to Shariati, there are around 3000 “rural areas” in Iran, in which close to 19 million people are currently residing.
Given that Iran’s regime joined the children-rights convention in 1993, it is now obliged to sort out its ongoing social issues such as the mentioned child labour.
Collection of Children
In its most recent effort to combat child poverty, which was about a year ago, Tehran’s council resorted to collecting children off the streets and penalising their parents. Which was followed with a heavy wave of criticism.
More than 300 University lecturers, researchers, social workers, lawyers, journalists, and children-rights activists, wrote an open letter in which they condemned the government officials for fighting with the victims, instead of fighting with what the victims were undergoing, i.e., the poverty itself. In this letter, they asked the government to spend more of the national wealth on “improving the quality of lives, especially of more vulnerable families, and on creating more employment opportunities, as well as providing children with better education and health”.
